Who writes Byte Journal, and what the work is about.

Byte Journal is written by Arxchitect — a computer science graduate who works on software, Linux and self-hosted infrastructure, and who writes here about the systems he actually runs.

What the work covers

The subjects are the ones the author works in day to day: AI systems and the agent tooling around them, Linux and server infrastructure, self-hosting, networking, and security — particularly what an always-on home environment exposes when nobody is watching it.

Field Notes are written from that work: measurements taken while building and running the machine that also publishes this site, including the parts that went wrong. News briefs and analysis are compiled from cited reporting and primary material, and are labelled as such.

How to read the two kinds of article

Everything published here carries its format at the top of the page. Field Notes are firsthand; News and Analysis are sourced and attributed, and every news brief lists its sources at the foot. The editorial methodology describes the difference and the checks behind both.
